The simulator runs in your browser, so the cost of a run is your laptop rather than a server. That is reflected here.

Why is the simulator free?
Because it costs nothing to serve. Every run happens in your browser: the server sends one JSON file of the world state and then does nothing. Charging for compute that never happened would be dishonest.
What am I paying for on a paid plan?
Persistence and scale. Saved scenarios, bigger ensembles, longer horizons and written briefings, which do use a model provider and therefore do cost money to run.
Is my scenario sent anywhere?
No. The simulation runs entirely on your machine. Only a scenario you explicitly save is stored, and only on this site.
Can I use the output commercially?
Yes, with the caveat that you present it as a simulation rather than a forecast. The terms page says this plainly.
How current is the world data?
The baseline is estimated for the current base year, and an administrator can refresh seventeen indicators per country from the World Bank at any time. Every field carries a mark saying which it is.
Can I add my own data?
Yes. An administrator uploads a CSV of base year figures on the Your data screen, every row is checked before it is stored, each figure is marked as yours wherever it appears, and every run after the upload starts from it. Institution plans include help doing that at team scale.
Your figures, in the world
Exactly what to upload, where it goes, what the checker reports and how a figure of yours reaches the model.
